23 x double 30W solar lighting units (dual spigot)
Service: Temporary Solar Lighting for Car Parks
The Challenge
During major works at the Kingsway site in Derby, a temporary car park was required to provide safe access and parking for staff, contractors and visitors. With no existing lighting infrastructure available, site managers needed a cost-effective, energy-efficient lighting solution that could be deployed quickly, without extensive groundworks or connection to the mains power grid.
The goal was to ensure reliable illumination, improved safety and enhanced site security throughout the duration of the works, all while keeping ongoing operational costs low.
The Solution
Sunlite Group designed and supplied a solar-powered temporary lighting system tailored specifically to the requirements of the Kingsway car park. The solution included:
- 29 x 1000kg block bases with 5m poles and 30W Solo-Lite iPower Max solar lighting brackets
- 23 x 1000kg block bases with 5m poles, dual spigots, and 2 x 30W Solo-Lite iPower Max solar lighting brackets
Each unit was installed to a total height of 6 metres, delivering uniform light distribution across the entire site. Because the system is fully off-grid, there was no need for trenching, cabling or electrical installation, significantly reducing project costs and deployment time.
The modular design of the Solo-Lite system also means the lighting units can be relocated, removed or repurposed as site requirements change, offering long-term flexibility for future projects.
The Results
The completed installation provided bright, consistent lighting across the Kingsway temporary car park, ensuring a safe and secure environment for users during construction.
By using solar-powered lighting technology, the site achieved:
- Zero running costs thanks to off-grid solar power
- Improved visibility and safety for vehicles and pedestrians
- Rapid deployment with minimal site disruption
- Flexible and reusable lighting infrastructure for future works
The project demonstrates how temporary solar lighting can offer a cost-effective, sustainable and scalable alternative to traditional mains-powered lighting, making it ideal for car parks, construction sites, public events, and other short-term infrastructure projects.
