Power your home with domestic solar installations at Sunlite Group

An increasing number of homeowners across the UK are turning to solar to power their homes. With energy prices constantly rising, many people are looking for a more sustainable and cost-effective power supply.

Over the last ten years, the cost of Solar PV has decreased significantly. As a result, it has become one of the most effective, efficient ways to generate green energy straight from your rooftop.

Installing solar panels can help you save money on your energy bills, and it’s a great way to reduce your reliance on fossil fuels. Solar PV systems also have the potential to increase the value of your home.

Government funding for solar

Although the Feed-In Tariff scheme (TIF) ended in 2019, on 1 January 2020, the government introduced the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) for licensed energy providers.

This new initiative required SED Licensees to pay small-scale generators (SEG Generators) for any surplus low-carbon electricity exported back to the National Grid. So, you can generate income by selling any excess electricity.

Furthermore, as of 23rd March 2022, the government have scrapped VAT on solar panels, making solar a more cost-effective solution than ever before.

Frequently Asked Questions about Solar Installations

How do solar panels work?

Solar panels are made using photovoltaic (PV) cells that convert the sun’s energy into electricity. PV cells sit between layers of semiconducting materials such as silicon.

When sunlight hits the cells, this gives them energy, creating an electric field. This photoelectric effect creates the current required to produce electricity.

Learn more about how solar works here.

How does the generated electricity power my home or business?

Solar panels generate a direct current of electricity. This is converted into an alternating current using an inverter, and can then be fed into the National Grid or used by your home or business.

How much does it cost to install solar panels?

We supply & install 4kWp Solar Systems. Prices start from £3995 and include zero VAT.

How long do solar panels take to install?

A 4Kwp solar system generally takes just one day to install. This can vary depending on the scale of your property, however we can advise during your free site survey.

Is it worth having solar panels installed?

Yes, there are multiple benefits of having solar installed. These include: lower energy bills, increasing the sustainability of your home, reducing your carbon footprint and earning money from the energy you don’t use.

Do solar panels work on cloudy days?

Solar panels react to the visible light spectrum. So, it’s light enough to see; there’s enough sunlight for solar panels to start generating electricity. However, the stronger the sunlight, the more energy solar panels generate.

Does it need to be hot outside for solar panels to work?

Solar panels produce more electricity in summer, making it seem like they need warmer weather to work. But this is not the case. Instead, solar panels become less efficient if the temperature gets too hot (or too cold).

The UK is well suited to solar power because we get over 8 hours of sunlight a day all year round and don’t often experience extreme temperatures.
